V1 Took a trip to find the voices in my head They don’t come round here anymore Peaks and valleys transport me back to their door Filling verses, filling pages, filling lines They’re gonna move the ladders so you better learn to climb and I’m just another dreamer dying on the vine V2 Velvet visions lost in frantic reverie obscure patches of reality Unprocessed trauma rooted deep inside of me Threaten bouts of constant crippling anxiety Now the wheels are coming off and the pressures building high and I’m just another dreamer dying on the vine

Out of Place 03:14
V1 The streets are lined with cars all riding their brake lights They’re all a little lost like me And I see the sidewalks are lined with the ghosts of faces I used to know Wish they’d haunt someone else and leave me be Feeling more than a little like this used guitar I may be scratched but I wear weathered well Hold me close and write your songs on me The neck is cracked, the action is out of whack, but I swear that you won’t break me down You could make beautiful music with me V2 Three AM in the morning and you say you’re lonely hey I’m lonely too So let’s dance together and shake the dust of this town from our broken in boots You know some say “all that’s good in life is wild and free” I know it means that you and I must go our separate ways The rain is washing down over me again rinsing this heartache out I found out that I can still fall in love Wandering aimlessly down these dark dank streets pleasantly lost in petrichor Bridge: A rotary telephone in a touch screen digital age Is just a little bit out of place An old school pocket watch in this anti-analog daze Whined me up and then watch me run Chorus:

V1 The garage door closed for the very last time And I’m dropped out stuck on the other side Got the chords to a song that I can’t find Echoing endlessly in my mind. Another lost generation that’s been maligned The sun is sinking low and the daylight’s dying Now we’re here, it's time to settle the score I’m not a young man, but I’m so angry with the state of these affairs V2 Fire station burning wakes me from my sleep The Livingroom’s vacant, and The Parlour’s faded Nights in the city try and make ends meat Tore it all down to make smoother streets It’s broken; go fix it They broke it; go fix it I broke it; go fix it It’s broken; fix it Unpack the boy from the mismatching tattered baggage of this man Chorus Memories fade to film noir Still got the magic of my youth in this guitar Strumming it all away the bumps and scars and let the music make you Melodies play it’s no holds barred Unlock the magic of my youth from this guitar Strum it all away the bumps and scars and let the music take you Bridge: Stuck inside, repeat rewind songs we did not get to play Lonely nights spent better storming vacant stages I try in vain to fit another’s voice into my mouth Chorus Memories fade to film noir Still got the magic of my youth in this guitar Strumming it away the bumps and scars and let the music make you Melodies play it’s no holds barred Unlock the magic of my youth from this guitar Strum it all away the bumps and scars and let the music take you home
4.
V1 The past is roadkill in the rearview there’s nothing more to say. Go and leave it all with yesterday. And orchestrate a new tomorrow and put the rest away. Tomorrow’s full of better days. On this second time around we are just a little Wiser. No need to share the reasons. You don’t need to have an answer yet, but I’ll bet we go farther on this second time around. V2 Between desire and transgression the memories at play. So plug it in and shred away. And if you miss the notes you’re after just bend it all the way. Towards What you were after anyway. On this second time around. There are fewer complications. We don’t need it figured out just yet. There’s no need to settle up old debts. But I bet we’ll go farther on this second time around. On this second time around On this second time around
5.
V1 Took a detour from the planed destination or so the story goes. Try so hard to defy their expectations but everybody knows Older one gets and the more one sees the world makes a little less sense Climb to the tops of their ivory towers, but never did make it inside Should have known that I would never leave this valley alive Chorus: All that want, all you crave all’s not meant for you All you build, all you create all’s not meant for you Take a bow move on to something new V2 Trade in vices for the virtues of devotion, but virtues can’t console All the rebels shed agnostic doctrinations before called home Older ones take as the young bloods seethe it all makes a little less sense Born on the banks of a burning river underneath brown skies Should have known that I would never leave this valley alive. Chorus:
6.
V1 Ground was broken this town sprung up almost overnight The people were astonished at the sight Justin like a castle from a time long past The Royal dwarfed everything Blocked out the light From far away the people came to work and slave In the service of The Royal all their days If they could change one choice they'd say it'd be the day they came To slave an work their lives away Chorus In the shadow of They Royal We've worked and cried In the shadow of They Royal We lived and died V2 Buff was a doffer he'd spin his rope while making jokes The children fumbled with machinery Up on the fourth floor the king and queen lived happily As the workers toil endlessly, you know they'd say Chorus V3 Now in the shadow of The Royal I've lived my life admiring its ancient majesty Who knows the secrets that it keeps? Its spire once tall now it weeps The Royal rises again Chorus
7.
Ghost Lights 03:05
V1 It’s curtain call; we’ve come to cheer you One final bow, bring down the show Tonight is done there’ll be no encore Tomorrow’s here it’s time to go Sleep now and don’t be bothered And we’ll complete these tasks of thine The brightest lights don’t burn for long, but they sure do shine Brightest lights don’t burn for long, but they shine V2 And so we leave the ghost light burning For those who’ve gone to find their way Shadows cast in every doorway Wit still lingers on the page And though you won’t be there to greet us Beneath the vacant marquee sign The brightest lights don’t burn for long, but they shine. Brightest lights don’t burn for long, but they shine.
8.
V1 Time keeps passing by can’t help but see shadows on the path creeping bigger. The blue sky it still holds holds luster. The light’s grown a little dim, still enough fuel to keep on searching. Into the fringe of the lunatics. I’m still searching. V2 Staring down a freight train out on the globe you're just a small child swimming in the deep end. So dive In. Even the outs just want some place to fit in The lantern’s grown a little dim, but I’m still searching. Bridge: Most of us lie and others they cheat, sell you change cheap leave your hope on the street. Cause the whole worlds broken now people don’t you know that man is just dung heap covered in snow and we’re searching. Still Searching
9.
Empty Sky 03:33
V1 Orphan posters scar the pay for plays With storied tales of brighter yesterdays Complete this thought that hasn't happened yet If I die before the rest, hold four beats and pay my debts V2 Stargazing in an empty sky I dream of screens and random passersby Criticize what you cannot create If I die before the rest, hold four beats and pay my debts Chorus: This shape is unfamiliar I don't recognize the form Cannot comprehend the function past is present till it's gone I don't want to play here anymore. Bridge: Another time, a different space Past the age of saving face Can't recognize familiar faces anymore Gentrify; eviscerate fictions logical and break the chain of mediocre common fantasy Chorus: This shape is unfamiliar I don't recognize the form Cannot comprehend the function Tomorrow's promised till it's gone I don't want to play here anymore I don't want to play here anymore
10.
Broken Sound 02:53
Songs call out to me to stand on the shore And I feel languid and forgotten So sordid and rusty Chorus: Spells worn off You know it's time to sink or swim Magic potion's wearing thin I don't know if there's anything that anyone can do Does this sound feel broken to you? Carry me back to the fight In the armor of my father Chorus: Spells worn off You know it's time to sink or swim Magic potion's wearing thin I don't know if there's anything that anyone can do Does this sound feel broken to you?

about

"Amid Life Crises" is the debut release from Survivors of The Kraken. It signifies the culmination of a twenty-year journey for bandmates Decoteaux, Furtado, Marra AND marks the opening salvo in their next adventure.

"Without really talking about it, without intending, we made a record that feels and sounds like it could have come out in those waning days of grunge," says Marra.

"Amid Life Crises" was recorded without the aid of computers directly to 2" tape and mixed down to 1/4". This record is the sound of human beings, playing instruments, and making music. It is perfectly imperfect and is a listening experience on the verge of extinction. Enjoy it while you can.
